BUILD GRANT TERMS AND CONDITIONS

These BUILD Grant Terms & Conditions (the “Grant Conditions”), set out the terms and conditions on which we make the BUILD Grant available. Successful applicants must ensure that the Project is undertaken in accordance with these Grant Conditions.

 

  1. DEFINITIONS:
    1.1  ‘Grant Recipient’, ‘you’ and ‘your’ means the person (individual) or organisation that we have given a grant to and is bound by these terms and conditions.
    1.2  ‘We’, ‘us’ and ‘our’ means (Broccoli Productions) and includes our employees and those acting for us. 
    1.3   The ‘Project’ means the project or activity that we have agreed to give you a grant for, as set out in your application form or proposal together with any supporting documents such as budget information, a timetable and any other documents that set out how your Project will be managed (the “Project Proposal”).


     

  2. THE GRANT
    2.1 The BUILD Grant is part of an incubation programme which includes a grant of £1,000 GBP each to five individuals looking to BUILD their podcasting careers. With a focus on hands-off creative development, we’re offering people the opportunity to expand their skills or attempt projects that would otherwise be unfeasible. Categories of grants will be paired to the five BUILD pillars: Marketing, Business, Personal Development, Storytelling and Production.

    2.2 Grant applicants will submit their applications for the grant detailing how they will allocate the grant funds and their project outline. All applications will be shortlisted by Broccoli before being reviewed by an expert (TBD) representing each category. In addition to a grant of £1000 GBP which must be used for their proposed project, successful BUILD Grant applicants will also be awarded a year's subscription to the BUILD e-learning platform, and 60 minutes contact time with the expert in their chosen category to offer guidance for their project.

     

  3. WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY
    3.1 Business Grant - People who are independent podcast small business owners (for this grant, annual turnover under £75k), aspiring Podcast business owners, and podcast contractors registered as Sole Traders or the equivalent in their territory.
    3.2 Marketing Grant - People with an independent podcast that want to use the money as part of a campaign to market their podcast
    3.3 Storytelling Grant - People who create, write or produce podcasts.
    3.4 Production Grant - as above
    3.5 Personal Development grant - as above

     

  4. WHAT CAN THE BUILD GRANT BE USED FOR

    4.1 The BUILD Grant must be used exclusively to fund the Project (e.g. Project related equipment and resources, or to finance the Project production budget) as part of a self improvement project, be that personally or content wise. The grant cannot be used to pay outstanding bills or any pre-existing debts or commitments.

    4.2 In carrying out your Project, you must operate in a way which complies with all relevant laws and government requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, legislation or regulations governing the way you operate, the In carrying out your Project, you must operate in a way which complies with all relevant laws and government requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, legislation or regulations governing the way you operate, the work you carry out, the staff you employ, or the goods and services you buy. For example, you are responsible for obtaining any licences, permissions and insurances that are required by law or ensure best practice.
     

  5. APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications may be submitted from 10:00AM (BST) Monday 22nd August 2023 until 23:59PM (BST) 21st September 2023.

 

Applications will be shortlisted using the following three criteria:

 

  • Originality/Creativity of how the grant funding will be used.

  • Fully developed Project Proposal (i.e. clear and realistic timelines, budgets, market research, list of resources)

  • Need for the BUILD Grant
     

Candidates who have not been shortlisted will be notified by the end of November with confirmation that their application will not be progressed to the next stage of the application process.

Following shortlisting, an expert representing each BUILD category will review shortlisted applications and will then select the successful BUILD Grant recipient in their category using the same criteria outlined above.

 

Successful BUILD Grant recipients (“Grant Recipients”) will be announced January 2024

 

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING STIPULATIONS:

a) All applications must be submitted in English.

b) Applications open globally except Russia and any other territories currently sanctioned by HMRC and/or the UK Government. c) Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.


We will be in contact with you within 14 days of our announcement of the successful applicants to arrange:

 

a) payment of the BUILD Grant funds;
b) a 1-hour meeting with the relevant expert; and

c) 12-month access to the BUILD e-learning platform.

 

You must accept our offer of BUILD Grant funds by responding to our email notifying you that your BUILD Grant application has been successful and providing the information set out in paragraph 7 below. If you do not provide a response with this information within [two weeks] our offer will lapse. If you are an organisation, the offer must be accepted by someone who is authorised to sign on behalf of your organisation.

 

6. PAYMENT TERMS
 

Grant Recipients will need to provide the following information to receive payment of BUILD Grant funds:

  • Name

  • Address

  • Date of Birth

  • Contact number

  • Email address

  • Company registration number if a business account

  • PDF of bank statement (not including sensitive data)
     

Upon successful setup, BUILD Grant funds will be released to the Grant Recipient within 14 days.

PLEASE NOTE:

The BUILD Grant funds will be made in GB Pounds Sterling or local currency equivalent, with the exchange rate being the prevailing rate of exchange at the Grant Recipient’s bank on the day of payment.  Any bank charges in relation to the receipt of BUILD Grant funds will be the responsibility of the Grant Recipient.

 

Any moneys provided to be paid to the Grant Recipient in accordance with these Grant Conditions shall be subject to the laws and regulations in or applicable to any part of the world in which the Grant Recipient is resident, including without limitation those laws and regulations relating to the imposition of governmental, state or local taxes which may be assessed on such moneys.  The Grant Recipient hereby accepts any and all responsibility for any taxes that may be assessed and due in relation to the receipt of BUILD Grant funds.

 

7. PUBLICITY

We will request that Grant Recipients complete a survey in relation to the experience and impact of the BUILD Grant Programme and we may periodically issue requests for Grant Recipients to make themselves available for publicity and to provide marketing materials in relation to their experience on the BUILD Grant programme. We must be consulted before release of any press statement about the BUILD Grant by any Grant Recipient. Grant Recipients must also contact us immediately if they become aware of anything related to the BUILD Grant that may have an adverse reputational impact on Broccoli, the Grant Recipient, or any organisation involved with the project that is being financed using BUILD Grant funds.

 

8. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

We acknowledge that you will own all rights in any materials produced for or relating to the Project and in the Project Proposal, including any intellectual property rights. You hereby grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free perpetual licence to reproduce any materials relating to the Project and the Project Proposal as we reasonably require for marketing and publicity purposes.

9. LIABILITY

 

9.1 We do not accept any responsibility for financial or other liability incurred by the Grant Recipient, any organisation, or any Participant that may arise out of any project funded by the BUILD Grant.

 

9.2 You are responsible for getting your own management, business and artistic advice. This includes considering whether you need to get financial, accounting, tax, solvency, legal, insurance or other types of professional advice.

 

 

10. VARIATION AND TERMINATION

​10.1 We reserve the right to amend these Grant Conditions at any time. Any changes to the Grant Conditions will be published on our website. Once published, any changes will apply to the BUILD Grant.

 

10.2 We reserve the right to terminate the BUILD Grant at any time. If we do this, we will set out our reasons to you in writing in a reasonable timeframe.

 

11. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION

These Grant Conditions shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the law of England and Wales and any disputes in connection with these Grant Conditions shall be governed exclusively by the courts of England and Wales.
